About
In 2017, Noah built an aquaponic system at his family home, farming food after college when his Music Performance degree wasn't opening doors. Posting about his work eventually landed him a job at an electric bus factory, where he quickly moved from assembly line to engineering.
We met on Valentine's Day 2021. Natalie was deep into houseplants as a hobby while working marketing jobs. We became friends, then roommates, then gardening partners. Natalie introduced Noah to rare Monsteras, sparking the idea: "Hey, we can make money doing this." We saw that aquaponics could be more than a hobby—it could have real impact.
In 2023, Natalie quit her marketing job to focus on the plants full-time. Noah continued building out systems while still working his engineering job, then eventually joined her. We got married in 2024 and filed our business documents a month later—making it official in every way.
It was amazing... then reality hit. To make this sustainable long-term, we need our own property with agricultural zoning. We've since transitioned back to full-time work while keeping The Drain Florist alive as our long-term vision. The plan? Save for a few years, buy that property, and build this thing for real.
What is The Drain Florist?
We grow plants using aquaponics: a closed-loop system where fish and plants support each other. Fish waste feeds the plants, plants clean the water for the fish. It's sustainable, space-efficient, and honestly just really cool.
Right now, we're focused on education and cultivating community around aquaponics and sustainable growing. Follow along to see what we're learning, growing, and building.
This is the long game. We're just getting started.
